Find the vehicle’s specified pressure
Find the recommended pressure in the manual or on the vehicle label, often near a door. It may differ between axles and with load. Do not select a value solely from the car brand or the maximum printed on the tyre. Use the specification that matches your tyre fitment and use.
Measure under the right conditions
Michelin recommends checking pressure when tyres are cold and following the vehicle manufacturer’s values. Check regularly and before a long journey with a full load. Include the spare wheel if fitted. If measuring after driving, consult the tyre maker’s guidance rather than arbitrarily releasing air from a warm tyre.
Do not ignore repeated pressure loss
A tyre that repeatedly loses pressure needs inspection; topping it up cannot establish the cause. If handling deteriorates, slow down progressively and stop somewhere safe. When should you plan to buy new tyres?
Have wear and damage assessed before deciding on replacement. A promotion or time of year does not establish that a tyre is still usable. To compare offers, request a tyre specification compatible with your car and a quote including fitting and balancing. After a puncture, first establish whether repair is possible: a photo alone is not a basis for deciding to buy a new tyre.
