Assess danger without exposing yourself
After an accident, people’s safety is the priority. If safe, activate the vehicle’s warning lights and avoid remaining exposed to traffic. Contact the appropriate emergency services for injuries, fire, leakage or immediate danger. Do not attempt movement or first-aid procedures you are not trained for; follow the instructions you receive.
Give emergency services useful information
Explain where you are, your direction of travel, how many vehicles are involved and any visible hazards. Report injured people without attempting a diagnosis. On a motorway, also notify the operator through its official contact. Keep your line available and follow instructions; recovery arrangements come after immediate emergency needs.
Arrange recovery once the scene is safe
Contact your insurer for the documents and approvals needed for transport. Do not drive a vehicle whose safety is uncertain.
