Observe without repeated attempts
Note whether dashboard lights come on, whether you hear a click and whether the engine turns during a starting attempt. These observations help describe the problem but do not prove the battery is responsible. Avoid repeated attempts when the car will not start. A key, starter or power-supply issue may need a different response.
Match equipment to the vehicle
State the make, model, year and powertrain. Start-stop, hybrid and electric systems can have specific requirements. The professional should check connection points and equipment compatibility against the manufacturer’s guidance. Do not handle a damaged battery or touch high-voltage cables.
Confirm what happens after a restart
