Prepare visibility and grip
Check tyres, wipers and lights before a journey in forecast rain. Adjust your speed and increase the gap to the vehicle ahead so you have room to react. If demisting no longer provides a clear view, find a safe stopping place instead of continuing with inadequate visibility.
Do not cross flooded sections
Water depth and the condition of the road beneath it can be impossible to judge from the driver’s seat. Do not enter a flooded road and respect diversions. If the vehicle has been submerged or stopped in water, do not attempt to restart it. Get to safety and seek advice from the appropriate services before recovery.
Explain access to the recovery provider
A slippery road, flooded basement or soft verge changes the recovery conditions. Describe these details in your Daba request and mention a usable access route if you know one. Do not enter water to take a photograph. People’s safety comes before recovering the vehicle or confirming a service request.
